1) What is a backup and why do I
need it?
A backup is an additional copy of your data stored on a remote site
or extra device such as a tape drive or external hard drive. Remote
backup requires high speed internet access.
Why backup: Files can be lost due to accidental deletion by employees,
virus infected files that can not be repaired, and file corruption
due to system problems. Make sure you periodically run a restore
test to make sure the backup works. The time to find out that you
have a problem is not after hard drive has died.
2) What are the advantages and disadvantages
of a network?
A network allows you to share, files, programs, printers and internet
access among numerous users. This access can be enhanced by a wireless
network. It will allow you to access your data and devices from
any place in your office or home.
The disadvantages are that you may experience disruption in the
signal in a wireless network. You may experience some slow down
in accessing files over the network because the data is not stored
on your hard drive. The additional equipment will require additional
safeguards and higher maintenance.
3) What software do I need for my system?
Every system needs virus, spam, pop up blocker, and spyware protection
software and a word processing package that you understand how to
use. Some system may need a firewall. A hardware firewall is better
than a software version. Make sure you get a product is supported
by most consultants.
4) Why do I need Power Protection?
In case of a power outage you will not experience any loss of data
or problems with your hardware. In the case of a network you may
need a UPS or Uninterruptible Power system. It is a battery backup
that will keep your system running in case of a power outage or
shut it down automatically to protect your system.
